The social media site Facebook was founded by Mark Zuckerberg and Chris Hughes in the dorm room of Harvard University in 2003 and was originally called FaceMash, later the social media site got an investment of $500,000 from Peter Thiel  an angel investor as a result of this FaceMash was renamed Facebook in 2004.
ever since that day Facebook continues to grow and the users of the platform today has grown to 2.2 Billion and has a net worth of $15.9 Billion.

The unique selling point of Facebook is that it has a very simple and easy to use interface, that can be used by anyone worldwide.

How they make Money

Facebook mainly generates the revenue by getting companies to pay to target specific people with advertisements. Facebook also sells data to other companies to help with market research.

How the company uses your data

Facebook uses their customer data to target adverts that are specific to you so that they can make adverts more appealing to the user.

Ethical Issues with the platform

Facebook works hard to protect users from inappropriate content by blocking it, it also makes sure the content posted does not breach their policies. for example the US election for Presidency information was gathered from the users from which candidates used the issues gathered to win swing states.

Safety issues with Facebook

Anyone and everyone no matter the age can use Facebook allowing every user to communicate, this is an issue because there are no way to govern the 14 year old age limit that is in place with users lying about age when creating a Facebook page.
